13 General Register Office for Scotland, Census (Scotland), CENSUS 1901 485/A-10-20. Birth location at 1901 census is recorded as Larbert. However, 1891 census states Bothennar, which also agrees to her birth record. 1891 was more accurate anyway since: (1) she was younger then and would probably be more concerned to be accurate; (2) Matthew and she had no children in 1891and could therefore afford more time to be accurate; and (3) they later moved to Bothkennar which suggests a move back to be near her family relations.

15 General Register Office for Scotland, Census (Scotland), CENSUS 1891 485-6-14. Calculated from age (21) at 6/4/1891 her year of birth is 1870 and not 1869 as implied by 1901 census.

16 General Register Office for Scotland, Register of Births, Marriages and Deaths (Scotland), SI MARRIAGES 1887-485-32. Age on marriage record is 18, which implies 1869 as year of birth. This is different from the year of birth (1870) implied by the later sources, including her birth record.

19 General Register Office for Scotland, Census (Scotland), CENSUS 1881-473-2-12. 1881 census records age as 10, which is consistent with birth record. However, it wrongly records Larbert as the place of birth. This was probably because Barbara's parents had forgotten and also because they seem to have lived on the 'border' between the parishes of Larbert and Bothkennar.
